This morning we went up to Worcester to have breakfast at the BirchTree Bread Company (click here to learn more). This restaurant is located in an old textile mill and has a nice open and airy ambiance to it. As the name suggests, it’s all about the bread here and what better way to enjoy breakfast than with some fresh bread and a coffee? During today’s visit, the group also had the opportunity to speak with a real-life food journalist (although, who’s to say we aren’t real?!) You can learn more about breakfast today by reading our reviews below. If you are interested in learning more about Ms. Sarah Connell, check out our post “Meeting up with a professional.”
This morning I ordered a breakfast sandwich with a medium lemon iced tea. The sandwich was made of ham, cheddar cheese, and a runny egg on a bacon fat brioche bun. The sandwich was a bit on the greasy side, but tasted excellent. The egg was cooked to perfection and the bun was warm and flaky. The ham was nothing special, but along with the melted cheddar cheese added a nice touch. For anyone looking for a good breakfast sandwich, look no further!
As for the lemon iced tea, I will simply say that it was alright. It definitely had that fresh taste that a good iced tea should have, but it was a bit on the watery side. Other than that, I enjoyed it and I have to say, it complemented the sandwich quite nicely. It is also worth mentioning that the service was excellent. The employees were friendly and energetic and even brought our food out to the table when it was ready. So if for some reason you are really into bread, then this is the place for you! If not, I would still recommend that you give it a try.
For breakfast, I ordered a small Hot Chocolate as my drink. The Hot Chocolate was pretty good; they asked what size I wanted, then they asked what kind of milk to use (whole, skim, or 2%) which normally isn’t asked of me whenever I order Hot Chocolate. I definitely liked the opportunity to choose my milk, since I prefer skim milk to anything else; this occasion of user preference really added to my appreciation of the place. The Hot Chocolate wasn’t anything special, though, so we didn’t say any innovative new recipes or ideas on the drink front.
For my meal, I had a Ham and Cheese Croissant. They had normal croissants, almond croissants, and chocolate croissants available as well. The Ham and Cheese Croissant included, well, ham and cheese (along with eggs). It was like a breakfast sandwich, but the softness and crunchiness of the croissant definitely added a lot of texture to combine with the great flavor combination of ham, cheese, and egg. Really, everything about it was great (except for the sheer pile of grease on the top of it, making it a bit messy and more unhealthy). If you like having eggs or toast for breakfast, you might want to try this instead; you’ll probably enjoy it.
